    Welcome to the English Language Program! Learn English as a Second Language.

    The English Language Program (ELP) at California State University, Los Angeles is an intensive English language program for non-English speakers who plan to attend college or want to learn English for business or personal reasons.

    - About the English Language Program

    What is the English Language Program (ELP)?
    · The English Language Program (ELP) is a dynamic 10-week intensive English language training program designed to fast-track your entrance into the university.

    What skill areas are offered?
    · We offer state-of-the-art multi-media instruction in:
    Reading Grammar
    Vocabulary Listening
    Writing Speaking

    How many levels are available?
    · We offer 7 intensive training levels all designed to help you get the skills you need for your university program.

    Location
    · On the campus of California State University, Los Angeles; Golden Eagle Building, Room 217
    · Within driving distance of downtown Los Angeles, Venice Beach, Pasadena (home of the Rose Parade), and the San Gabriel Valley - near the intersection of the 10 Freeway and the 710 Freeway

    Program Description
    Our courses are designed to give you the English language skills you need in order to begin your university program as soon as possible.
    Placement Test Given at 9:00 am on Registration Day
    Program Length Quarter programs are for 10 weeks
    Classes
    Levels 1-6: Reading, Vocabulary, Writing, Grammar, Speaking, Listening
    Level 7: Bridge to the University = 4 ELP classes + 1 University class
    Class Hours: Mondays and Wednesdays: 8:55 am – 3:10 pm
    Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays: 8:55 am – 12:25 pm
    Health Requirements Student Health Insurance - must be purchased online or in person on Registration Day. Medical Form (last page of ELP Application form ) – to be completed by your doctor in your country.
    Program Costs (all costs in USD and subject to change without notice)
    Application fee: $150
    Tuition (per quarter): $2,750
    Health Center Fee (per quarter) $55
    Student Health Insurance (per quarter) $150 to $220


    - How to Apply (18+ Yrs Only)

    Step 1. Please mail the following to our office.
    · ELP Application form (* see attachment 1)
    · $150 USD Application Fee + $800 USD Tuition Deposit
    · Your original bank statement or your sponsor's original bank statement - minimum $23,835 USD; statement should be issued within 6 months; signed & stamped by bank manager. No scans, no faxes, no copies, please.
    · Sponsor Support form if using a sponsor (included in ELP Application form)

    Step 2. We will send you the I-20.

    Step 3. In order to apply for your student Visa (F-1 Visa)
    · Pay $200 SEVIS Fee: Go to the website below. Pay the fee, and print your receipt BEFORE you go to the visa appointment at the U.S. embassy. Take your receipt with you to the embassy appointment. www.fmjfee.com
    · Make Appointment with a U.S. Embassy: You will need to get an F1 Student Visa. Take these documents with you to your appointment:
    1. I-20 document from our school
    2. Bank statement (sponsor's if used)
    3. Sponsor form, if used (included in ELP Application form
    4. Passport
    5. SEVIS fee receipt (print the from the website at www.fmjfee.com)
    6. ELP program information

    Step 4. Prepare for registration at ELP.
    Take the Medical Form to Your Doctor: Take the English Language Program (ELP) Medical Requirements form (on the last page of the ELP Application form) to your doctor. Your doctor must complete the form. Bring this completed form with you to ELP's Registration Day. The University requires this form. The State of California says you cannot go to school without these medical records.
    · Find Housing: Find a place to live BEFORE you enter the United States. You should apply early! Here are some ways you can find a good apartment:

    Remember, there is no emergency housing - so plan early!
    · Be Ready to Buy Student Health Insurance on Registration Day - The University says you must buy Student Health Insurance here in the United States on Registration Day. The cost varies between $150 to $220 USD per quarter. You cannot use your country's health insurance plans.

    Step 5. Welcome to the United States of America!
    · Arrive at Los Angeles International Airport - take taxi or van shuttle service

    Step 6. Welcome to the English Language Program!
    · Come on Registration Day (usually on a Tuesday morning) to the ELP office at 9:00 a.m. The United States Immigration Service requires you to come on this day. If you have an emergency, please call us immediately.
    You will need to bring:
    1. Credit card, 2 traveler's checks, 2 money orders, or 2 U.S. bank personal checks for tuition fee and health insurance fee payment.
    2. Your passport
    3. Your Visa and I-94 card
    4. Your I-20
    5. Your English Language Program (ELP) Medical Requirements form (on the last page of the ELP Application form) signed by your doctor
    · First Class Day – usually the first Monday after Registration Day
    Return to the English Language Program office (Room GE 217) on the first day of class (usually the next week after Registration Day on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m.) to receive your schedule, teachers’ names, room numbers, and campus map. You will begin your classes.
