This communication is being sent to notify you that this office will terminate your Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) record on Friday, January 10, 2014, based on your academic dismissal from the Intensive English Language Program and your inability to enroll on a full-time basis.
United States federal regulations governing individuals in Nonimmigrant Student (F-1) status require that individuals whose SEVIS records have been terminated either depart the United States immediately or file with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) an application for reinstatement to F-1 status.
Departure from the U.S. offers you the opportunity to reassess your academic goals and an opportunity to re-apply to a university (either in the United States or in your home country). If you choose this option and resume your studies at Temple University or another academic institution in the United States, to re-enter the United States in F-1 status, you would have to obtain a new Form I-20 and to re-enter the United States by presenting that new document to the immigration inspector.
To be eligible to apply for reinstatement to F-1 status, you would need to be admitted to another school that would be able to support your application for a reinstatement. In that case, the other institution would need to assist you in applying to the USCIS for reinstatement to F-1 status. If you intend on beginning studies at another academic institution in the United States, please note this office may need to release your SEVIS to that academic institution so that they may assist you in the reinstatement application process. The record will be released in a “terminated” status.
Detailed information on the transfer-out process is available on our web site at Transfer OutRequest Form (temple.edu/isss/documents/transfer_out_request_form.pdf).
If you choose to remain in the United States without pursuing reinstatement of your F-1 status, you would be doing so in violation of the federal regulations governing F-1 status. In addition, you should be aware that the longer you remain in the United States after having fallen out of F-1 status, the less likely you are to be reinstated by the USCIS.
To discuss how and when you may submit to the USCIS an application for reinstatement of your F-1 status, please call the office and schedule an appointment with an international student advisor or visit the office during our walk-in hours (Monday – Friday, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.) to speak with an international student advisor.
