    Listed below are the minimum requirements set by the Graduate School. Department requirements may be more rigorous. Be sure to check the graduate program's web site for application requirements, deadline dates, testing requirements and for further details and instructions. Requirements vary by graduate program.

    Bachelor's Degree A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution. The Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC) will determine eligibility for admission in consultation with prospective graduate programs.
    3.0 GPA
    upper-division A grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or comparable grade point average in upper-division work (junior- and senior-level courses) and in any graduate work already completed.

    If you feel that your grade point averages or test scores are not valid indicators of your ability, you should explain your concerns in a letter to the graduate adviser of the program to which you are applying.
    Official Test Scores (GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, IELTS) The Educational Testing Service (ETS) code for The University of Texas at Austin is 6882. Test scores sent to this code are made available to all graduate departments. TOEFL scores over two years old will not be accepted. Other test scores more than five years old will not be accepted. Only test scores mailed directly from the testing agency are considered official.

    Subject matter preparation Records should reflect that the applicant has received adequate subject preparation for the proposed graduate major.
    Departmental requirements This includes such items as statement of purpose, writing samples, portfolios, etc. Check with the graduate program to which you are applying for their specific requirements. See list of graduate programs.
    Letters of recommendation Letters of recommendation are required for almost all applications to graduate school. Most graduate programs use our online recommendation system. Check with the graduate program to which you are applying to determine how to submit your letters.
    Certification of Financial Responsibility Form for International Applicants While this form is not required for consideration of your application for admission, it is necessary for preparation of the immigration document (Form I-20 or Form DS-2019) for The University of Texas at Austin. You may download this form from the International Office's web page
