Thank you for your inquiry.
It is not possible to speculate on chances of admission without a
complete application file. Please review the research topics listed on
our website to help you decide if Ohio State is a good match for you.
Check out
Research | Biomedical Engineering and
Directory | Biomedical Engineering.
The grad program at Ohio State BME attracts a competitive application
pool. We welcome students with backgrounds in traditional engineering
fields, BME, as well as biology (along with some added engineering/math
course work).
Of roughly 125 applicants to the Biomedical Engineering Graduate
Program, only 40 were admitted in 2010. Admitted students earned a mean
GPA of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale and an average total GRE percentile of 79%
(75% verbal and 83% quantitative). International GPAs averaged 83/100.
We post no required minimums and honor considerations of experience,
diversity, background, and recommendations. However, minimum cuts for
the University Fellowship Competition include a 3.6 GPA and an average
verbal/quantitative GRE percentile of 75%.
You may apply directly to the PhD program even if you do not have an MS
degree. All applicants to the PhD program are considered for any and all
possible financial aid opportunities. Here, the MS program is a
self-funded venture.
The deadline for applying for the Autumn 2012 quarter is January 15th
(or November 30th for International students, especially those vying for
fellowships). Applicants may apply past-deadline for admission, and may
be considered for other forms of funding, as available. (You also may
apply for WI12 or SP12.)
As you complete your application package, please check out our website
to learn more about the research areas of our faculty:
BME Department Research Areas/Domains | Biomedical Engineering. The more we know about your
research interests and skills, the better we can serve you.
You are more than welcome to contact the faculty members whose research
looks interesting to you!
The GRE is required of ALL applicants to the MS and PhD programs and
also of those with non-engineering undergraduate degrees who are
applying to the MD/PhD and MSP programs. Also, the university minimum
for TOEFL -- 650 on Paper-based TOEFL(PBT);114 Internet-based TOEFL(IBT).
An application checklist can be found at
Forms | Biomedical Engineering.
Finally, here is the list of pre-reqs in case you have not seen it.
Applicants may take these courses at other universities before applying.
Be sure to look at their descriptions on the Ohio State Course Bulletin
website to be sure those you are taking match the content required.
