Dear #####, Congratulations on your acceptance into Kaplan’s English Program! We are excited that you will be attending our Kaplan Merrimack Center. In order to best address your needs and concerns while studying with us, we would like to provide you with some details regarding your course of study and the activities that are offered. Kaplan’s English Programs For over 60 years Kaplan has helped students achieve their academic and professional goals. The same techniques and methods that make us the world leader in test preparation provide the foundation for all our English Programs. By studying with Kaplan you are ensured to study in a dynamic location in the United States. Highly qualified academics and experts teach our English courses using the excellent educational materials that are carefully created by Kaplan. At our Kaplan center we also offer modern facilities and the latest computer technology. Our interactive English software program will help you individualize your language learning. Also, in order to best address your needs, our Kaplan centers are open 7 days per week. While studying at Kaplan, you will meet students from all over the world as our student population represents over 40 countries. Together you all can get to know the city in which you will be living and enjoying the American experience with other international students. There are various activities offered by the Kaplan center, such as bowling, museums, and camping, which you can participate at your own leisure. When you arrive at the Kaplan Merrimack Center you will take a placement exam that will be used to place you in a level according to your ability in the 4 main language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Your English course will focus on improving your listening and speaking skills as well as your reading, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. Throughout your course of study with Kaplan you will take End of Level tests to assess your progress and to determine your readiness to advance to the next level. Our program is an interactive multi-media based English language curriculum that combines computer technology and language learning. Kaplan Merrimack Center Merrimack College resides in the safe, affluent town of North Andover, located 25 miles north of Boston. It offers easy access to Boston, beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, and the mountains of New Hampshire. From golfing on world-class courses to cross-country skiing to canoeing along the pristine Shawsheen River, the town is filled with numerous activities, cultural attractions and historical sites. While the center provides a family-like atmosphere with small class sizes, students can also enjoy all the amenities that Merrimack College has to offer, including full access to the library, gym, skating rink, multiple computer labs, performance center, and wireless Internet. In addition, Kaplan students have the option of joining more than 40 clubs and organizations, from jazz ensemble and choir to theater group and the college TV station. Merrimack Center activities help students learn American culture and have fun in the process! Students can choose to go strawberry picking at local farms, visit the Stonyfield Organic Yogurt factory, and enjoy the beauty of Flume Gorge in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Students can also try snow tubing in the winter or whale-watching in the summer. And of course, one can always go to Boston, which is a short 30-minute drive away.
