The current policy is applicants to graduate programs must submit all required application materials, which includes TOEFL scores.



Kent State only offers conditional admission based on TOEFL results to undergraduates. Otherwise, a TOEFL, IELTS, or MELAB score is required for graduate students. Conditional admissions for graduate students are not being offered at this time, and any exceptions to this rule are difficult to obtain. However, if you feel that your situation qualifies as an exception, please write a detailed letter as to why you cannot take the TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, or GMAT tests. After reviewing this letter, we will decide if your application qualifies for conditional admission and will pass your information along to the Dean of Graduate Studies who will approve or deny the request. If approved, your application will be reviewed by the department, but admission is not guaranteed. You will then be notified of their decision.



You can certainly enroll in our English as a Second Language (ESL) program here at Kent if you need more training in English. Completion of this program, however, does not guarantee admission into a graduate program, but you may be able to continue your studies.
