Hello. Thank you for your interest in Western Illinois University. You can access our online catalogs to view all of the programs that we offer. Links follow. Each listing will give a program description, admission requirements, and course options.


Each Department makes their own decisions on whether or not to admit a graduate student to the program. Before they can review your application, you will need to apply. Once we have received your application, our office will send you an email outlining all of the documents required to complete your file. We will attach any required forms at that time. Once your file is complete, we would then be able to forward it to the Department for review. We would notify you of their decision once they informed us.


Most programs at WIU, including Physics, offer conditional admission based on English proficiency, however, if accepted, there is a deposit of $3,750 USD** required before the acceptance documents, including an I-20, can be sent out. This is not an additional fee, but is instead a portion of the first semester's tuition up front. If you are interested in pursuing a degree, you must apply directly to the program you are interested in. If you are accepted to the degree program and ESL is required, we will test you upon your arrival on campus and automatically enroll you in our WESL program. You would begin the WESL program during the same semester to which you applied. Once completed you would then be able to move on to your degree program. If you apply to WESL only, without applying to a degree program, you will not be able to move on to a degree program.


**Students who will be receiving an approved government scholarship are not required to pay this deposit.

Our intakes and their respective application deadlines follow.

Spring (January intake): October 1 deadline
Summer (May/June intake, undergraduate only): March 1 deadline
Fall (August intake): May 1 deadline
