    • Excess baggage will be subject to additional fees, to be collected at the airport. For excess baggage rates please contact your nearest Qatar Airways Office.
    • Transatlantic travel refers to travel to and from the Americas on flights operated by Qatar Airways.
    • United Airlines and Air Canada have revised the checked baggage allowance for travel from USA and Canada to India with effect from 15 November 2010.(See below for more details)

    Liquids & Gels

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recommends all liquids, gels, pastes and aerosols of up to 100 ml be carried in one transparent and re-sealable plastic bag to a maximum capacity of 1 litre. The transparent bag's dimensions should not exceed 20 cm x 20 cm or 8 in. x 8 in. Containers over 100 ml will not be accepted even if only partly filled. You may be required to produce your clear transparent bag of liquids separately for security screening.
There are no restrictions on baby food and required medications. It may be necessary for you to produce a medical certificate or doctor's prescription in order to bring medication onboard.

    Mishandled Baggage

At Qatar Airways, over 99% of checked baggage is claimed by our passengers immediately following their flight. However, for the exceptional case when your checked baggage does not arrive with you, you can be assured that we will do everything possible to locate your items and return it to you promptly.
If your baggage is missing, it is extremely important that you file a report at the Qatar Airways baggage services counter at your arrival airport. You will then be given a baggage tracing number, which you can use to track the status of your baggage claim. Please click the banner below if you have received a tracing number and would like to check on the status of your claim.

Connecting with United Airlines or Air Canada within the USA or Canada for travel to India?

New Checked Baggage Allowances for travel with United Airlines and Air Canada from USA and Canada to points in India: Economy Class only
United Airlines and Air Canada have revised the free checked baggage allowance for economy class customers, for travel from the USA and Canada to points in India only.
With effect from 15 November 2010, United Airlines and Air Canada will offer a free checked baggage allowance of one (1) piece only for economy customers travelling from points in the USA/Canada to India.
Qatar Airways, however, continues to offer a free checked baggage allowance of two (2) pieces for all customers on Qatar Airways flights from the USA (currently New York JFK, Washington DC IAD, Houston IAH) to cities in India served directly by Qatar Airways via Doha and between cities in India and their final destination in the USA/Canada.
United Airlines and Air Canada have published the following new checked baggage policies:
    United Airlines:
For tickets issued on or after 20 Oct. 2010 for travel on or after 15 Nov. 2010, United Airlines will allow only one (1) piece Free Checked Baggage Allowance with the introduction of a new baggage charge, currently USD50, for the 2nd piece. This policy applies for all customers travelling to a final destination in India and commencing their journey in the USA with United Airlines.
    Air Canada:
For tickets issued on or after 15 Nov.2010 for travel on or after 15 Nov.2010, Air Canada will allow only one (1) piece Free Checked Baggage Allowance with the introduction of a new baggage charge, currently CAD50, for the 2nd piece. This policy applies for all customers travelling to a final destination in India and commencing their journey in Canada with Air Canada.
Please visit www.united.com for United Airlines and www.aircanada.com for Air Canada for additional information on checked baggage fees and policies.
If I am booked to travel in economy class, how will United Airlines and Air Canada’s new baggage policies for travel between the USA/Canada and India affect me when travelling with Qatar Airways from/to the USA or Canada to/from India?
Travel from USA/Canada to India using a ‘through’ ticket (as one continuous journey) e.g. Chicago via Washington and Doha to Delhi: if your journey commences in Chicago with United Airlines to connect to a direct Qatar Airways flight departing from Washington to Doha and connecting with a Qatar Airways flight to Delhi, you are entitled to one (1) free piece of checked baggage for the whole journey, and you will be charged USD50 by United Airlines for the 2nd piece of checked baggage**
Travel from India to USA/Canada using a ‘through’ ticket (as one continuous journey) e.g. Mumbai to Miami : if your journey commences in Mumbai with Qatar Airways, flying with Qatar Airways from Mumbai to Doha and from Doha to Washington (IAD) you remain entitled to the current Qatar Airways Free Checked Baggage Allowance of two (2) pieces** through to your final destination (Miami).
Simply, when travelling in economy class, if you commence your journey from the USA or Canada to India with United Airlines or with Air Canada, then one piece** of free checked baggage will be allowed. If you commence your journey from the USA with Qatar Airways (currently from New York JFK, Washington DC IAD or Houston IAH) then two pieces** of free checked baggage checked baggage will be allowed.
Journeys commencing from India, regardless of the country of ticket purchase, remain unaffected by these changes.
** subject to permitted maximum weight and dimensions
