Classes in EF Chicago range from 8 students for ILSP courses to 17 students maximum in a class for ILS courses. Using the Efekta curriculum, English is taught through task based learning in a communicative context. Each unit of the curriculum takes one academic week. The unit revolves around a communicative theme that incorporates all language skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) and language items (vocabulary and grammar). Students are introduced to new vocabulary and grammar through the theme of the unit and then apply that language to strengthen their language skills. Students are assessed on their understanding and progress throughout the week, as well as standard forms of assessment such as quizzes and exams after completion of a unit or book.
For example, a new unit might be focused on the them of "Money and Finance". Relevant vocabulary would be introduced through reading texts, or listening, or similar tasks or activities. Following that, new grammar items might be introduced with relevant real life applications, for example using that grammar in a speaking task related to that theme, etc.
They have students from Saudi Arabia with more students coming throughout the upcoming months.
