ENTRY STANDARD EXPECTED AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Firstly, we are looking for applicants with excellent academic credentials,
based on indicators such as previous grades, a candidate’s relative position
within their class, academic references and the standing/ranking of the
institution attended. We will assess whether you have a sufficiently strong
background in accounting, finance and quantitative skills as well as
considering your overall academic achievement.
To gain a place on the programme you must have excellent academic results.
We are looking for a first class or high upper second class honours degree
with a high average (normally 65%+), or the overseas *****alent.
Usually candidates will be in the top 5-10% of their class. We particularly
welcome applications from academically strong candidates studying at
institutions of high ranking and repute.
You need to have studied, or be studying, a degree in accounting and/or
finance. You must have taken, or be studying, a substantial number of
courses in accounting and finance in the FINAL year of your degree and have
excellent results in these subjects. You will also need to demonstrate a
solid background in quantitative skills, econometrics or maths. We can
consider exceptional candidates with non-accounting and finance degrees if
you have a VERY strong quantitative background (eg a degree in economics or
mathematics), and/or a professional accountancy qualification.
If your degree transcript does not include a list of your final year courses
you will need to provide this information in addition to your transcript, as
we are unable to make a decision without this information.
If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence that
you meet our required level of English. If your current or previous degree
is taught ENTIRELY in English, you are not normally required to take an
English language test, however you will need to provide written proof from
the university to confirm that your degree is taught entirely in English.
As we receive a very large quantity of applications for the MSc Accounting
and Finance programme and have a very strong applicant pool, if you have not
already met the minimum English requirement when you apply, your application
may not be successful. We do not normally offer conditional places subject
to meeting the requirements or taking a pre-sessional English course.
We accept the following English tests and minimum scores, although we prefer
candidates to take the IELTS test where possible. You may submit a photocopy
of your score with your application - we will check and verify your score if
we offer you a place. We do not accept English scores that are over two
years old.
2. TOEFL Paper-based: 623 TOEFL Computer-based: 263 TOEFL Internet-based: 100 www.ets.org/toefl
4. English for Academic Purposes (EAP): Minimum grade A (for NCUK
applicants)
ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMMES THAT DO NOT REQUIRE AN APPLICATION FEE
Not all Manchester Business School programmes have an application fee. The programmes that require an application fee are: MSc Accounting and Finance, MSc Finance, MSc Finance & Economics, MSc Finance & Business Economics, MSc International Business and Management and MSc Marketing. We receive a very large number of applications to these programmes. If you decide that you prefer to be considered for an alternative Manchester Business School programme that does not require an application fee, such as MBus Global Business Analysis or MSc Decision Sciences/Operational Research, please let me know the name of the programme you would like to be considered for and I will transfer your application details to that programme. Details of all our programmes can be found on the Manchester Business School website. http://www.mbs.ac.uk/specialist/index.aspx
If you wish to apply for another programme in addition to the MSc Accounting
and Finance programme you will need to submit a separate application. If you
decide to withdraw your application I would be grateful if you could let me
know. If we do not hear from you within the next four weeks we will
automatically withdraw your application.
Our preferred method of communication with you is by email - if you require
an alternative form of communication please let me know. I look forward to
hearing from you soon.
